About me

Dmitry is Fortior’s Senior Associate. Before joining Fortior’s team, he was an associate at a top-tier Ukrainian shipping law firm, held the position of chartering broker and legal advisor and the head of the legal department at one of the biggest exporters of agricultural products in Ukraine.

More than eight years of experience in shipping, international trade and arbitration allowed Dmitry to gain a comprehensive understanding of complex shipping market challenges and to approach them from the positions of the traders, charterers, shipowners, time and bareboat charter operators, forwarders etc.

His experience includes analysis and resolution of shortage, quality, demurrage/dispatch/detention, non-payment, non-delivery claims etc. related to contracts based on GAFTA and FOSFA pro-formas, charterparties and bills of lading. Further, he often acts on behalf of parties in international arbitration.

Representative experience
  • Representing the interests of a Cyprus based shipowner in an LMAA arbitration on a collision case;
  • Advising a Ukrainian vegetable oil trader on the case regarding a contractual lot of sunflower oil, worth over US$ 10 million, stolen during the sea passage;
  • Acting on behalf of a Ukrainian trading company in numerous demurrage claims worth over US$ 2 million;
  • Assisting a Turkish vessel owner in securing the release of a coaster size vessel from unlawful arrest in Ukraine;
  • Assisting a UK based trading company in obtaining the arrest of a Turkish owned coaster size vessel in Georgia;
  • Assisting a BVI based company in the purchase of a handy size vessel from a Turkish company;
  • Representing a Ukrainian grain trading company in a GAFTA arbitration in a dispute on the collection of damages under a washout agreement;
  • Representing a Ukrainian FOB seller in a dispute regarding the total loss of the cargo of sunflower cake during sea passage;
  • Advising a Swiss-based CIF seller in a dispute regarding unlawful cancellation of a contract due to alleged poor quality of the goods;
  • Representing a Swiss grain trader in a GAFTA arbitration against a Swiss counterparty related to non-delivery and unlawful cancellation of the delivery contract;
  • Advising a Swiss-based commodity trader on issues related to general average;
