About me

Giles is an Associate at Fortior Law. He previously worked as an Associate at Mamo TCV Advocates, a top-tier Maltese law firm. Giles specialises in shipping and international trade law as well as corporate and commercial law. For over 3 years he has been providing legal assistance and advice to clients operating in the shipping sector with respect to maritime law and shipping disputes, while also catering to the corporate needs of such clients. Giles assists in dispute resolution matters and litigious proceedings on behalf of Fortior’s esteemed clients.

He has experience in aviation law, particularly wet and dry lease agreements and aircraft operating agreements.
Giles is also in charge of the Fintech department at Fortior Law, advising generally on regulatory and corporate law matters pertaining to initial coin or token offerings (ICOs and ITOs) distributed ledger technology (DLT) and virtual financial assets (VFAs).
Giles was admitted to the Maltese Bar, Superior Courts of Malta, in 2015.

  • Representation of a number of commodity trading and shipping companies in London arbitration proceedings.
  • Legal advice in relation to the institution of court winding-up proceedings of a Maltese company pursuant to contentious matters between shareholders.
  • Counsel to company in relation to the successful partial lifting of an international freezing order issued by foreign authorities through appropriate legal channels.
  • Counsel in relation to the transposition of Directive 2012/34/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 November 2012 establishing a Single European Railway (recast).
  • Shareholder disputes, joint ventures and partnerships and transfer of business agreements.
  • Corporate law including company acquisition and disposal, mergers and amalgamation and capitalisations.
  • Advising on a project to be implemented by authorities in Malta relating to the use of marine fuels.
  • Negotiation and major restructuring of an aviation company in preparation of new investment – introduction of new shareholder to bring company in line with applicable EU legislation.
